Summary

She does everything right。 So what could go wrong?

Mackenzie “Mac” Cabot is a people pleaser。 Her demanding parents。 Her prep school friends。 Her long-time boyfriend。 It’s exhausting, really, always following the rules。 Unlike most twenty-year-olds, all she really wants to do is focus on growing her internet business, but first she must get a college degree at her parents’ insistence。 That means moving to the beachside town of Avalon Bay, a community made up of locals and the wealthy students of Garnet College。

Mac’s had plenty of practice suppressing her wilder impulses, but when she meets local bad boy Cooper Hartley, that ability is suddenly tested。 Cooper is rough around the edges。 Raw。 Candid。 A threat to her ordered existence。 Their friendship soon becomes the realest thing in her life。

Despite his disdain for the trust-fund kids he sees coming and going from his town, Cooper soon realizes Mac isn’t just another rich clone and falls for her。 Hard。 But as Mac finally starts feeling accepted by Cooper and his friends, the secret he’s been keeping from her threatens the only place she’s ever felt at home。

Five star read / listen! Brought me out of my book slump。 Listened to this in one day and starting again today for a second listen。 Late to the Elle Kennedy train and now can’t look back! Excited to jump into her other books。 Loved the characters and their witty banter, steamy scenes, and swoony romance。 Different spin on the typical enemies to lovers troupe。 Writing and especially narration from dueling POV’s gave the main characters great depth that gave me butterflies throughout the book。 Tha Five star read / listen! Highly recommend picking this one up!Please note that I was gifted this ebook in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Thank you @smpromance @netgalley for ALC of Good Girl Complex。 I am a huge fan of Elle Kennedy’s book and this one did not disappoint。 I love that Mac & Cooper were from totally different upbringing and different economic background and they were friends first。 Their attraction was fire and I love the slow burn! This was a fun one that had my attention from the get go。 The conflict and connection between Mac and Cooper is introduced pretty early and it immediately piqued my interest。 I was ready to find out just how it all was going to play out。 I often felt like I should want to dislike Cooper, because of his intentions - but I ended up really liking him。 I actually found myself really disliking some of Mac's choices more - seeing as she was the one in the relationship - but, realistically, neither of This was a fun one that had my attention from the get go。 The conflict and connection between Mac and Cooper is introduced pretty early and it immediately piqued my interest。 I was ready to find out just how it all was going to play out。 I often felt like I should want to dislike Cooper, because of his intentions - but I ended up really liking him。 I actually found myself really disliking some of Mac's choices more - seeing as she was the one in the relationship - but, realistically, neither of them were in the right。While the events leading up to the ending were a little predictable。。 and a couple times I found myself wishing we could just get to the conflict that I knew was to come, I still enjoyed this overall。 Thanks to Netgalley and St。 Martin's Griffin for the Advanced Reader Copy! 。。。more

AGH! I could go on about how this is basically “After” by Anna Todd but set in like the outer banks basically, but I’ll spare the details。 Admittedly, I have missed EK’s writing but specifically for her Off-Campus/Briar U fans, clearly this isn’t in correlation to the series but in saying that, the writing and vibe is definitely different。 For girlies reading for the smut, a couple scenes semi-served for a second but I just think they lacked build up and overall the ending felt a bit brief/sort of rushed。 I had SUCH a tough time deciding my take on this novel but in full transparency it wasn’t apart of my absolute top favorites, but nonetheless I’m still very thankful to have been able to read it! It’s just that reading it felt very anti-climactic :/ 。。。more

But what we got was her making up kinda with her parents and making up with Cooper。 HFN。 I assume this is because this is going to be a series? It must be。 So hopefully when we get an Evan book or a insert other character here book we will get more of the hotel progress in the background of those stories。 Anyway those are minor things。 More observation than complaints。 I liked the other books I’ve read from her more。 This book releases 2/1 if you’re interested。 If you like her other books I’m sure you would like this too。 。。。more

The other is。。。a wealthy person who isn't like every other wealthy person (she is, though)。 This one, Mac, is young, but that's no excuse for how weirdly clueless she is。 There are flashing warnings all around her, but she sees none of them。 She's too busy being offended by her mean, boring professors (*sighs forever*) and making heinous financial and life decisions。 Don't worry, though。 She and the guy with no coping mechanisms are going to save each other (still sighing)。 Be sure to join her in noticing how cool it is that a sexual partner doesn't even hesitate when she asks him to use a condom。 Does he。。。get an award for this? I really enjoy women's fiction and romance, and this is just a basic version of both。 There are a lot of missed opportunities here。 Perhaps others find this appealing (!!!), but when a male partner in an adult hetero relationship refers to a female partner as "Princess" without the slightest hint of irony, I'm finding that gross, not romantic or anything close。 Readers who find this charming may be a better audience than I am。 After over a month of trying to read the electronic version and getting only two chapters in, the audio arc helped a lot; I flew through the remainder in one day。 Readers drawn to this book because of its related genres, cover, or even title should consider scrolling further in the queue。 Sadly, you've already read this one in many other iterations。 *Special thanks to NetGalley, St。 Martin's Griffin, and Macmillan for the e-arc and audio arc, which I received in exchange for an honest review。 The opinions expressed here are my own。 。。。more

It's so bad, I want to give you a 0, but that's not possible, so I give you a one。 This was genuinely the worst book I have ever read in my entire life。 I hated every minute of it but I only finished it because I wanted to write this terrible review from the first idk 20 or so pages in。 SO here it is。 First of all, this book is by far the most sexist 2011 shit I've ever read。 Are we done with the girl with daddy's money is a worthless bitch trope because we need to be。 Elle Kennedy said, yeah y' It's so bad, I want to give you a 0, but that's not possible, so I give you a one。 This was genuinely the worst book I have ever read in my entire life。 I hated every minute of it but I only finished it because I wanted to write this terrible review from the first idk 20 or so pages in。 SO here it is。 First of all, this book is by far the most sexist 2011 shit I've ever read。 Are we done with the girl with daddy's money is a worthless bitch trope because we need to be。 Elle Kennedy said, yeah y'all already thought I was problematic。。。。 here's 1,000 more reasons to think that! Not only was this sexist towards women, the toxic masculinity was atrocious。 The cheating trope is so dumb and tired and truthfully not even good。 Cooper is literally an asshole to everyone including his stupid ass twin brother, his friends, and his girlfriend who he solely dated for revenge。 Why on earth they were together even after Mackenzie found out made me hate her even more。 She'll let one stupid man use her but another tells her that he thinks her hotel is stupid and he's cheating on her is where we draw the line? Babes you were the laughing stock and entertainment for this man and his friends for the first quarter of the book。 The ending was garbage in every way and the only good character was the gay uncle who she only added in for her diversity character because everyone ripped her a new one for only writing about straight people。 Thank God I didn't spend money on this book or I'd be wanting a damn refund。 。。。more

Audiobook? 4 ⭐️ Book/ Plot? 3⭐️ = Overall 3。5/5 for me。 Mac is new to Avalon Bay, starting her freshman year。 When she meets one of the beautiful Hartley twins, Cooper, she knows he’s trouble。 But little does she know that Cooper has placed her into his sights, as part of a revenge plot against Mac’s boyfriend。 He plans to break them up, and take her for himself, as a big FU。 Honestly, I love me anything by Elle Kennedy, and while this book wasn’t my forte, I still enjoyed it and don’t have any Audiobook? 4 ⭐️ Book/ Plot? 3⭐️ = Overall 3。5/5 for me。 Mac is new to Avalon Bay, starting her freshman year。 When she meets one of the beautiful Hartley twins, Cooper, she knows he’s trouble。 But little does she know that Cooper has placed her into his sights, as part of a revenge plot against Mac’s boyfriend。 He plans to break them up, and take her for himself, as a big FU。 Honestly, I love me anything by Elle Kennedy, and while this book wasn’t my forte, I still enjoyed it and don’t have any outright negative comments! The plot was a bit generic, and I agree with other reviews that it’s highly similar to Anna Todd’s After Series。 The revenge plot with the good girl, bad boy, and early college angst just wasn’t that original。 The plot was rather predictable, and I thought it felt a bit too dragged out with the additional sub-plot lines later in the story。 It took til about the last 30% of the book to be different and more interesting, but at that point, the romance was just getting dragged on。 In terms of the audiobook, I LOVED the narrators! cooper was edgy and the emotion Joe Arden portrayed had me actually choking up at time! Ava Erickson has such a sweet, light voice, that is so innocent to fit Mac’s ‘Good Girl’ character。 Overall, while this wasn’t my cup of tea, I’d give it a 3。5/5 review。 My opinion fell very halfway on the book, but the narrators gave it a bump up。 So audiobook? 4。 Actual book/plot? 3。 Thank you NetGalley & McMillan Audio for an eARC of the audiobook for Good Girl Complex, by Elle Kennedy。 This has been my honest review! 。。。more

I was not sure what to think going into this。 Elle Kennedy's New Adult books usually feature covers with naked man abs, and plots about hot college athletes falling for sweet yet sassy love interests and having super-steamy sex。 Does this cover represent an Elle Kennedy rebrand? What is happening?????Sweet pastel cover aside, what's under the cover is a classic new adult Elle Kennedy novel featuring a college town setting, a "good" girl and a "bad" boy, a lot of sexual tension, and a fair amount I was not sure what to think going into this。 Elle Kennedy's New Adult books usually feature covers with naked man abs, and plots about hot college athletes falling for sweet yet sassy love interests and having super-steamy sex。 Does this cover represent an Elle Kennedy rebrand? Not sure。 Going to think a bit more on this。 The trope involved (relationship formed on a secret bet) isn't my favorite and I think that Mackenzie needed a bit more character development to make the extreme contradictions in her character make sense。 She's a savvy businesswoman who has made a MILLION dollars on a "bad boyfriend" app yet has herself been dating a bad boyfriend for four years and seems unaware of the irony。 She is (view spoiler)[ OUTRAGED to learn that her boyfriend is a serial cheater yet is pretty much cheating on him too。 (hide spoiler)] I am a bit more excited by some of the supporting characters and will keep reading in the series for them。 Jen Ryland Reviews 。。。more
